Electrical Engineer – Power Systems

We are looking for an experienced electrical engineer to play a key role in designing, developing, and constructing innovative energy projects. You’ll work on a variety of exciting initiatives, from transmission and distribution substations to renewable energy and systems. Your expertise will help shape impactful projects, ensuring top-notch safety, functionality, and innovation.
Job Description
In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of exciting initiatives, from planning and designing transmission and distribution substations to pioneering renewable energy solutions and protection and control systems.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the analysis and interpretation of data from work sites, blueprints, GIS maps, and equipment specs to guide project planning and design.
- Oversee electrical infrastructure design, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
Apply advanced electrical engineering techniques to improve project phases, from concept to construction and operation. - Design and develop single-line diagrams, substation layouts, grounding grids, and lightning protection systems, ensuring adherence to industry standards.
- Plan and implement future-ready design strategies, incorporating advanced technologies and smart building standards.
- Review and approve electrical calculations and designs for load, equipment sizing, grounding, and protective relaying.
- Manage the design and construction of electrical infrastructure projects, from inception to completion, including budget and safety planning.
- Oversee and coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure project delivery meets technical, regulatory, and safety requirements.
- Prepare and present technical reports, data visualizations, and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
- Stay updated on the latest engineering practices, standards, and regulations to implement innovative and effective solutions.
- Engage with regulatory agencies, clients, and subcontractors, maintaining professional and ethical standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- Minimum 5 years applicable engineering experience (post college graduation, not intern)
- Professional Engineer (PE) License or EIT
- Be located within the Greater Seattle Area, or able to relocate.
- Be able to work in-office 3-4 times per week.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- NEC design experience for industrial/heavy commercial facilities
- Experience working with electric utility interface and service applications
- Knowledgeable with Revit and AutoCAD
- Ability to do the following:
- Create single-lines by applying an understanding of NEC requirements and good design practice
- Select or calculate equipment ratings including withstand or interrupting duty, bus size, voltage, etc.
- Perform load calculations per NEC 220
- Compile panel and load schedules
- Select and apply conductor and raceway sizing
- Understand and apply NEC 110 rules for working space and dedicated space
- Research and identify available equipment from manufacturers to provide room sizing information
- Develop supply circuit and equipment sizing using the NEC for large motor loads
- Experience with 240/120V 1 phase, 208/120V 3 phase, and 480/277V 3 phase systems and equipment
- Ability to apply NEC and select transformers
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience serving as a construction project manager and familiarity with construction safety protocols.
- Familiarity with grid modernization and smart grid technologies.
- Experience with renewable energy systems and their integration into existing power systems.
- Experience in cost-benefit analysis for electrical infrastructure projects.
- Experience with utility-level voltage distribution systems and controls (12.47kV and above)
- Perform lighting calculations using AGI32
- Apply energy code requirements applicable to lighting, lighting control, and electrical systems
- Select harmonic mitigation measures for VFD and lighting applications
- Experience with motor controls and developing MCC control circuits for motors
- Experience with 4160V distribution and motor control
